Design Manager
The Design Manager leads the creative function of our wedding and event studio. This role combines artistic direction, team leadership, and production execution. The Design Manager ensures that all designs—from intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations—are executed with quality, inclusivity, and professionalism.
This position welcomes and serves clients of all identities, backgrounds, cultures, and relationship structures.
Responsibilities
Design Planning & Execution
· Lead design team from proposal to execution of detailed design projects
· Utilize mood boards, and decor plans for clients, translating complex ideas into clear, executable designs.
· Work directly with sales teams to ensure client visions are properly translated to designs
· Direct the on-site setup of installations and design elements, ensuring the highest standards of quality are met.
· Act as the primary decision-maker for on-site design adjustments and logistical challenges during execution
Project & Design Management
· Develop and manage design budgets for each event, ensuring all creative specifications are met while maintaining profitability.
· Identify and vet specialized vendors for custom props, lighting, fabrication, and other design elements outside of in-house inventory
Team Management & Collaboration
· Manage and direct the design team, delegating tasks, providing mentorship, and ensuring their work aligns with the overall design plan.
· Work closely with the Floral Manager to ensure the floral vision integrates seamlessly with the overall event design, providing creative direction for complex floral elements.
· Ensure designs are developed and executed on time, within budget, and with proper staffing.
Qualifications
· High school degree is required, bachelor’s degree in a design related principal is preferred
· 2 + years of proven track record of creating, implementing, and executing designs for weddings and/or events. Knowledge of the wedding and event industry is a plus
· Strong knowledge of design process and project management
· Ability to cope with stressful and emotional situations and clients
· Strong influencing, negotiation, and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
· Must be organized, analytical and dynamic
· A passion for design, people, weddings, and events.
· Strong portfolio available for viewing
Working Conditions
Special working conditions can cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, working with challenging clients, etc.
Physical Requirements
The Planning Lead job can be physically demanding. There is a potential requirement to stand for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects on a regular basis, and perform repetitive tasks.
