A Glossary of Candles
by Sarah Lenz
Let’s be honest, to some of us, a candle is a candle. However, when it comes to the details of your event, you may come to realize that there is more than just one type of “candle”. In this article, we will break down the different types of candles, all which are able to be rented through Revel and Flourish, in hopes of helping you find the right fit for your day.
Floating Candle
Floating candles are both beautiful yet intriguing. Each set comes with three candles: one short, one medium, and one tall, all in cylinder holders. The cylinders are then filled with water and a flat candle is placed on top, where it then floats, hence the name floating candle. These are most commonly used as centerpieces and create a magical and romantic lighting.
2. Hurricane Trio
These trios can be in cylinders or in square frames. A tall frame, medium frame, and short frame create one hurricane trios. These candles create vertical interest with their variety in height. These candles are more often seen as centerpieces, but are very versatile when it comes to placement. These are a good choice if you are having a hard time deciding between lanterns or tapered candles. Revel and Flourish also offer a variety of different kinds of frames to choose from, to keep the ambiance in your control. Overall these are a great and safe choice for creating a romantic night!
3. Lanterns
Although most of us may know what a lantern is, these statement candle holders do a great job at helping create a more intimate and comfortable space. They can be used as centerpieces on tables, however, they are also great at lighting pathways or helping illuminate darker areas of the venue. Overall lanterns do a great job at completing themes and encompassing larger venues that may feel too open.
4. Tapered Candle
If you are looking to really fill your space vertically, tapered candles may be your answer. Each set will have a short, medium, and tall lengthed candle holder that are encompassed by a glass cylinder of the appropriate size. These candles are elegant and classy, mostly used as centerpieces. If you are looking for a simple yet beautiful approach, tapered candles are the way to go.
5.Votives
Votives are made for small tea candles and can offer just the right amount of romance and light. These candles are often seen on dinner tables as well as scattered throughout the venue. Ranging in different colors and textures, votives help execute a theme/ ambiance. Due to the range and variety of votives, these small candle holders are a great way to help tailor your wedding to your specific taste.
Although the amount of different candles may feel overwhelming, they are a great way to express your ambiance and provide romantic lighting for your big day. When rented through Revel and Flourish, all candle holders are provided with the appropriate candle; the candles offered can be real flame or LED, it is a good idea to check with your chosen venues on the rules regarding if real flame candles are allowed.
